School Enrollment Procedure

  1. Newly arrived refugees/Secondary Migrants
    1. Intake at RAP (Refugee Assistant Program, @ 501 Park St. Syracuse, NY)
    2. Application available /online registration at RAP.
    3. Schedule a test @ CRC (Central Registration Center 1728 South Ave, Syracuse, NY) Every Wednesday at 9: am by appointments only.
  2. Secondary Migrant
    1. Procedure I a, and I b is same. However, you may walk in for testing directly at CRC every Tuesday. Please call beforehand Ph# 435- 4545.
  3. Documents needed for student registration.
    • Completed Registration packet
    • Birth Certificate
    • Medical Records
    • School records (if available)
    • School Name and number
    • Proof of address
    • I-94/Passport/Resident card
    1. Parent/s needs to be with their children at CRC on testing date for health interview by school nurse.
    2. One of the nationality workers will contact you about the school placement, grade and starting date.
    3. Schools are selected strictly based on street directory and space availability.
  4. One of the case workers or volunteers from CYO/Interfaith will assist you to school for the first day and help about bussing if you qualify.
  5. Bus services. You may qualify:
    1. Elementary School: If you live more than 1.5 miles away from school.
    2. Middle School: If you live more than 2 miles away form school
    3. High School: If you live more than 2.5 miles away from school
  6. Transfer Request
    1. Back to home school( granted if space is available)
    2. Join sibling (granted if space is available.)
    3. Other( denied unless Mayra Todd approves)
    4. Transfers are requested only during the month of May, no request for transfer will be granted if requested during the school year.
  7. Chart for enrollment of students as per their age. ESL students can be placed in a lower grade based on the Assessment Test.
